Subscriptions to foreign applications and services carry a whole range of risks for Russians, from legal and financial to technical and operational. This was announced on April 1 by Ruslan Permyakov, Deputy Director of the Competence Center of the National Technology Initiative (NTI) "Technologies of Trusted Interaction based on Tomsk State University of Control Systems and Radio Electronics (TUSUR)".

"A subscription means that you enter into an agreement with a foreign company that operates in its jurisdiction: data can be processed outside the Russian Federation and outside the requirements of 152-FZ. The Company may unilaterally restrict access (sanctions, compliance). It is possible to block an account without explaining the reasons," the analyst explained in an interview with RIA Novosti.

The specialist identified several categories of threats. Among the legal ones is the processing of personal data outside the country without taking into account domestic legislation. Financial risks include currency fluctuations, unforeseen fees from intermediary banks, and difficulties with unsubscribing, which can result in double charges. In addition, the user risks losing access to the service and their own information at any time due to sanctions restrictions or a decision by Roskomnadzor.

He also noted the difficulties in contacting support in cases of application failures. In addition, there is a risk of reducing the quality of service, since foreign services are not regulated by Russian legislation.

According to the expert, users often underestimate the operational difficulties that become noticeable only in case of failures.
