A draft law on the protection of Russians arrested abroad with the help of the army has been submitted to the State Duma

On March 19, the Russian government submitted to the State Duma a bill providing for the possibility of involving the armed forces to protect Russian citizens who have been arrested or prosecuted by foreign courts. These data follow from a document published in the Duma electronic database.

"The draft federal law <...> was developed in order to protect the rights of citizens of the Russian Federation in the event of their arrest (detention), criminal and other prosecution pursuant to decisions of courts of foreign states authorized in the field of criminal proceedings by other foreign states without the participation of the Russian Federation," the document says.

The bill provides for amendments that, in particular, allow the possibility of using the Russian military outside the country by decision of the head of state. The explanatory note clarifies that the President of the Russian Federation has the right to take measures to protect the country and its citizens if the decisions of foreign and international bodies contradict the interests of Russia and the foundations of its public law and order.

On March 18, diplomats informed Izvestia that the Russian Embassy in Poland had reported an increase in cases of harassment of Russian citizens in recent years. There has also been an increase in accusations against Russians under completely far-fetched pretexts. The Russian embassy called the detention of Russian archaeologist Alexander Butyagin on absurd charges by the Kiev regime a blatant violation.
