A flying robot has been developed in France
French aviation engineer Edwin Van Ruymbeke has unveiled a new development, a robotic swift called The Swift, which has now been launched on Kickstarter. The new device belongs to ornithopters and flies thanks to flapping wings. It is controlled via the iOS and Android apps. This was reported by New Atlas magazine on February 17.
The main feature of The Swift is two interchangeable tails. Usually, ornithopters are capable of flying at only one relatively high speed, which is why they are suitable only for open spaces. With the Speed tail, the device can reach speeds of up to 31 km/h. When the Precision tail is installed, the robot can stably and controllably fly at a speed of only 3.5 km/h.
According to the publication, the application provides five settings for each tail, allowing you to adjust the speed, planning and responsiveness of control. Thanks to the Precision tail, the device can be run indoors.
Even when falling, the device is designed for durability, as it is made of foamed polypropylene, carbon rods and titanium. The weight of the robot bird is 10.9 g. The flight time is from 10 to 12 minutes on a single battery charge. The control range is up to 150 m.
In addition, the X-Play accessory is additionally offered — a capacitive joystick that attaches to the smartphone screen and turns it into a full-fledged controller. If the project goes into production, the pre-order price will be €109 ($129). The planned retail price is €156 ($185).
On February 10, New Atlas announced the creation of a new humanoid robot, Moya. It was clarified that the model can deeply adjust to various gender characteristics and appearance, as well as express a wide range of emotions. According to the publication, the release is planned for the current year.
