Russian Ambassador Stepanov called Canada a paper polar bear
Canada does not pose any significant threat to Russia either in the Arctic or in the world as a whole. This was announced on February 17 by Russian Ambassador to Ottawa Oleg Stepanov.
"Taken separately, the "maple leaf country" is a kind of paper polar bear. It has always been and remains only a part of the US military mechanism. He has no independence in terms of force," the ambassador concluded.
According to the ambassador, Canada does not pose a significant threat to Russia either in the Arctic or in general — Ottawa does not have a clear and financially secure strategy of force projection in the world and in high latitudes, the Canadians are building their line reactively and sporadically.
Stepanov also noted that the country does not have enough human, technical and infrastructural resources.
On February 13, Stepanov noted that Canada will practically and politically pay for its Russophobic policy. He added that the Russian side has the widest range of measures to influence both Ottawa and its allies. He also added that the set of retaliatory actions would be a "surprise" for Canada.
