Putin accepted Tokayev's invitation to visit Kazakhstan
Russian President Vladimir Putin has accepted an invitation from Kazakh leader Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to pay a state visit to Kazakhstan. This was reported on February 16 on the Kremlin's website.
"Kassym-Jomart Tokayev invited the President of Russia to pay a state visit to Kazakhstan in connection with this event. The invitation was gratefully accepted," the message says.
Putin and Tokayev also discussed the development of relations between the two countries during a telephone conversation. In addition, the Russian President confirmed his participation in the meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council, which will be held in Astana at the end of May.
Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to Kazakhstan Alexey Borodavkin said on February 15 that Moscow and Astana are holding discussions on the topic of upcoming negotiations and the dates of Putin's visit to Kazakhstan in 2026 at the invitation of Tokayev.
At a meeting with the Russian leader on November 12, 2025, Tokayev called the scale of cooperation between the two states unique. He and Putin also signed a declaration on the transition of relations between Kazakhstan and the Russian Federation to the level of comprehensive strategic partnership and alliance.
