China unveils new humanoid robot Moya

Shanghai-based startup DroidUp, also known as Zhuoyide, has unveiled a new humanoid Moya model, which is scheduled for release this year. It was presented in Shanghai at Zhangjiang Robotics Valley, where many developers of humanoid robots in China work. This was reported by New Atlas magazine.

"Thanks to the modular bionic platform, Moya can flexibly adjust to different gender characteristics and appearance. Her easily customizable bionic head can delicately express a wide range of emotions, from joy and anger to sadness and happiness, with a natural grace in her gaze. Equipped with a model for controlling the cerebellar motor system, Zhuoyide's movements when walking and turning are smooth and elegant, completely departing from the traditional "steel image" of humanoid robots," said a DroidUp representative.

In addition, Moya is designed so that her skin maintains its usual body temperature of +32...+36 degrees. She even has ribs. The creators claim that Moya's walking accuracy is 92% of that of a human, although this discrepancy of 8% can still be noticed.

Moya's main strength lies in the way she interacts with people, maintains eye contact, smiles, nods, and expresses emotions through facial muscle movements, which we often perform unconsciously. To interact with humans, the robot uses a camera behind its eyes and artificial intelligence (AI), which allows it to make "microexpressions" of a face.

Nevertheless, Moya has received mixed reviews. Some people compare her to models from the "World of the Wild West" or even to a walking ghost. Despite this, DroidUp hopes that the model will be used in areas such as elderly care. The price for Moya will be about $173,000, and it will most likely be sent to healthcare and educational institutions.
