In Russia, scammers began offering cashback for purchases on marketplaces. This was announced on January 6 by the Directorate for Combating the illegal use of information and communication technologies of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation for St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region.

According to police, in February, the attackers sent messages with text about allegedly receiving 15% of the cashback, offering to click on the activation link. The scheme is aimed at active buyers of online platforms.

The link leads to a clone site of a bank or marketplace, where users are asked to enter their username, password, and SMS code, after which the data gets to the scammers for subsequent theft of funds.

To protect against such attacks, the Ministry of Internal Affairs recommends that you do not follow links from suspicious messages, but enter the bank or marketplace only through official applications or manually typed websites. Those who have already clicked on the link and entered the data are advised to urgently change their passwords, disable linked cards and contact the bank.

Earlier in the day, it was reported that on the eve of February 14, Valentine's Day, fraudsters began using new deception schemes, including creating fake accounts on dating sites or sending messages about an allegedly unexpected flower delivery. So, one of the schemes involves the creation of a fake website for the delivery of flowers and gifts for the holiday. When the victim enters his bank details to pay for the service, the attackers receive all the information.
