The Russian side is interested in developing relations with Armenia. This was announced on February 5 by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov at a meeting with representative of the National Assembly of Armenia Alain Simonyan.

"We proceed from the fact that over the past year our contacts at the highest level, at the political and parliamentary levels have developed steadily and very intensively. We are interested in this," Lavrov said.

He called Armenia an ally and strategic partner of Russia, noting that Moscow sees how difficult the situation in the South Caucasus is. Lavrov also expressed bewilderment at the periodic statements about mythical attacks allegedly being prepared from the north against Armenia.

The Minister stressed that Moscow remains Yerevan's main trading partner and is ready to step up cooperation.

The Deputy Prime Ministers of Russia and Armenia, Alexey Overchuk and Mher Grigoryan, discussed issues of economic cooperation during the talks in Yerevan on December 17, 2025.

The meeting also highlighted issues of cooperation between the two countries in the fields of energy, industry, transport, agriculture, digitalization, healthcare, culture, science, education and tourism.
