The European Union pointed out that Europe is in a state of conflict with Russia
Europe is already in a state of conflict with Russia. This was announced on February 4 by Secretary General of the Diplomatic Service of the European Union (EU) Belen Martinez Carbonel.
"We are already in a state of conflict with Russia," she said in an interview with the newspaper El Pais.
At the same time, the Secretary General noted that, in her opinion, conflict actions requiring the mobilization of citizens of European countries would not occur.
Carbonell stressed the need to achieve a "just and sustainable peace," which will also require U.S. support. She added that due to the strengthening of the EU's defense capability, resources will have to be reallocated, which may lead to the abandonment of part of the usual standard of living for citizens.
According to Carbonell, with the outbreak of the conflict in Ukraine, the EU is no longer solely an economic and peacekeeping project, and is now forced to use defense policy tools.
Ben Hodges, the former commander of the US armed forces in Europe, also noted on February 2 that Europe is already in fact at war with Russia, even if this is not officially recognized. According to him, European countries should accelerate their preparation and adaptation to the new security reality.
In October, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that almost all EU and NATO members were rallying in an attempt to inflict a strategic defeat on Russia. According to him, the Russian side is fully aware of its special responsibility for maintaining international peace and security.
