- The Russian Foreign Ministry declared the unacceptability of deploying troops of the "coalition of the willing" in Ukraine.
The deployment of troops of the "coalition of the willing" in Ukraine after a possible peace agreement is categorically unacceptable for Russia. This was announced on February 4 by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.
"This is, of course, an undisguised plan to carry out a foreign military intervention <...> It is categorically unacceptable for us. Russia has repeatedly stated that the deployment of Western troops on the territory of Ukraine under any flag would pose a threat to our security. We will consider these troops as a legitimate military target," Zakharova stressed during a briefing.
She also recalled that the "unrestrained expansion" of NATO to the east, including Ukraine, has become one of the key causes of the conflict, and a settlement is impossible without resolving this issue.
The Times newspaper reported on January 8 that France and the United Kingdom are ready to send up to 15,000 troops to Ukraine as a peacekeeping contingent after a possible peace agreement. On the same day, Zakharova announced that the West's plan to militarize Ukraine was aimed at escalating the conflict.
French President Emmanuel Macron on January 6, the day when the "coalition of the willing" signed a declaration on the deployment of the military in Ukraine, clarified that the document sets out in detail all the components of security guarantees, and the participants agreed to create a single coordination center.
