The first five days of February in Moscow may become the coldest in recent decades. This was announced on February 4 by Mikhail Leus, a leading specialist at the Phobos Weather Center, in his Telegram channel.

According to him, the peak of frosts is still ahead, and this winter may break records.

"In the age of global warming, the beginning of the last winter month was colder only once, in February 2012, when the average air temperature during the same period was -20.2 degrees," the forecaster noted.

On the night of February 4, the temperature in Moscow, according to the VDNH weather station, dropped 9-10 degrees below the climatic norm, reaching -18.5 degrees by 6:00 Moscow time. At other stations in the city, the minimum values ranged from -16.7 degrees in Baltschug to -22.8 degrees in Butovo. In New Moscow, in Mikhailovsky, the temperature dropped to -25.9 degrees.

The coldest point in the Moscow region was Cherusti, where the temperature reached -28.6 degrees. At the same time, Nemchinovka turned out to be the warmest near the MKAD, where the thermometer showed -19.5 degrees. It is predicted that residents of the capital region will have to survive two more nights with temperatures below -20 degrees.

The average air temperature for the first three days of February in Moscow was -18.9 degrees, which is 12.2 degrees below the long-term values.
