- The Ambassador announced Russia's plans to raise the issue of the seizure of ships by Europe at the G20
Russia, within the framework of the Group of Twenty (G20), will raise the issue of illegal seizure of ships by European states. This was announced on February 4 by the Russian Foreign Ministry's Ambassador-at-Large for G20 and APEC issues, Marat Berdyev.
According to him, due to the seizure of ships by individual EU countries, risks for the transportation of energy resources are increasing, which makes the problem relevant for all G20 participants.
Berdyev warned that the discussion on this topic would be acute and uncomfortable, primarily for Britain and France. He noted that the Russian side would demand the abandonment of such pirating practices.
"They are forced to use, in fact, bandit methods in order to receive dividends, as is their custom, at the expense of various neo—colonial and aggressive practices," he summed up in an interview with RIA Novosti.
On January 22, the French Navy detained an oil tanker in the neutral waters of the Mediterranean Sea, which, according to the French authorities, was heading from Russia. The Russian Embassy in France said that Paris had not notified the diplomatic mission about the detention of the ship.
Subsequently, it became known that the detained tanker had arrived at the port of Marseille. As reported by BFMTV on January 25, the Grinch crew includes Indian citizens. Zakharova announced on January 30 that the tanker Grinch has no connection with Russia.
