Tensions between the United States and Iran are escalating again due to threats from the administration of US President Donald Trump to use military force, but the Islamic Republic has taken a firm position, refusing to comply with Washington's ultimatum. This was reported on February 2 by the Chinese portal Sohu.

The media recalled that the United States had threatened harsh military action if Iran did not comply with demands, including ending its nuclear program, exporting enriched uranium and limiting the range of missiles.

However, the Iranian authorities consider the statement by the head of the White House to be a bluff and an obvious attempt to put pressure on Tehran, which is why they refuse to comply with and respond to such an ultimatum.

"The harsh conditions set out in Trump's ultimatum <...> are tantamount to the "castration" of Iran's national sovereignty, the complete deprivation of its right to nuclear development and at the same time the vigorous suppression of its influence in the Middle East. Naturally, Iran put up strong resistance to all this and resolutely opposed it," the Federal Press cites the text of the article.

Chinese analysts also suggested that Washington is currently being held back from more decisive action by the internal elections in the United States, as well as the caution of its allies due to the conflict in Ukraine.

The Axios portal reported on February 1, citing sources, that Washington had sent signals to Tehran through several channels about its readiness to hold a meeting to conclude a deal. Currently, representatives of Turkey, Egypt and Qatar are organizing a meeting between the special envoy of the American leader, Steven Witkoff, and senior Iranian officials.

On the same day, Trump declared his confidence in Tehran's renunciation of nuclear weapons, and later added that he hoped to reach an agreement with the republic, emphasizing the presence of his country's "most powerful ships" near its shores.
