In Cairo, two shops fell through the ground due to subsidence
In Cairo, two shops completely collapsed underground due to subsidence of the soil to a depth of 15 m. This was reported on February 1 by Al Arabiya TV channel.
"The ground sank to a depth of approximately 15 m inside the gas station, which led to the complete collapse of two shops that were located inside the station," the report says.
According to the channel, the incident occurred at a gas station in the area of the Fifth settlement in the east of the capital. A flower shop and a pastry shop have gone underground. As a result of the collapse, two people who were inside the premises were injured. They were hospitalized in New Cairo.
A preliminary investigation revealed that the cause of the subsidence was excavation work on a nearby construction site of the shopping center. The authorities have taken measures to ensure the safety of the territory and prevent repeated cases.
The TV channel added that similar incidents had previously occurred in the area of the Cairo International Book Fair and in the city of Hurghada.
Earlier, on January 6, it was reported that in Japan, after the earthquake in Shimane Prefecture, six victims with various injuries were taken to hospitals. It is known that four people in the city of Matsue were injured in a fall during the earthquake.
