The State Duma proposed to allow an official waiver of sick leave
Yaroslav Nilov, Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Labor, Social Policy and Veterans' Affairs, suggested that employees should have the right to refuse to apply for electronic sick leave if their illness or injury allows them to work remotely. He stated this in an interview with TASS on February 1.
"My suggestion is that it is mandatory to take consent for sick leave before applying for an electronic sick leave. If there is no consent, then the citizen himself is responsible. According to the law, the patient is provided with a treatment service. Accordingly, he can refuse," Nilov said.
The deputy recalled that previously an employee could decide for himself whether to present a sick leave to his superiors or continue working. Now, when the document is automatically entered into the database, the employee, even while continuing to perform his duties, may lose income, since sick leave payments are often lower than his usual salary.
