In Moscow, at the Troekurovsky cemetery, a farewell ceremony was held for the former coach of the Russian national football team, Boris Ignatiev. Footage of the ceremony on January 30 is published by Izvestia.
His family and friends, as well as many athletes and football officials, came to say goodbye to Ignatiev. In particular, the event was attended by the Honorary President of the Russian Football Union (RFU) Vyacheslav Koloskov, head of the Russian Football Veterans Union Alexander Mirzoyan, former coach of the Russian national team Haji Gadzhiev, former coach of CSKA Valery Gazzaev and others.
Boris Ignatiev's death became known on January 27. He led the Russian national team from 1996 to 1998. Ignatiev was a part of a number of Soviet clubs, including Gorky Volga, Dynamo Moscow and Makhachkala, and Meteor Zhukovsky. Ignatiev's widow Irina said that the possible cause of her husband's death was heart disease and stomach problems.
On January 27, Russian Sports Minister Mikhail Degtyarev stressed that Ignatiev's work in the Russian national team had left a deep mark on the history of Russian football. He also expressed his condolences to the relatives and friends of the outstanding football player, his numerous colleagues, students and fans.
The coach of the Akhmat football club, Stanislav Cherchesov, said at the same time that Ignatiev was a mentor who always knew what to say. RFU President Alexander Dyukov expressed his deep condolences over Ignatiev's death, calling him a bright and kind man and a great loss to the football family. He also noted that Ignatiev worked honestly for the benefit of Russian sports.
