- The media pointed to the catastrophic deterioration of the situation in Ukraine's energy sector
The situation around energy in Ukraine continues to deteriorate. This was reported on January 28 by the Polish newspaper Myśl Polska.
"Kiev is facing a humanitarian catastrophe — huge high-rise apartment buildings are immersed in darkness and cold, electricity, light and heating are supplied to them for only three to four hours. <...> The situation is getting worse every day," the article says.
The publication writes that at the moment the Ukrainian energy system is at the limit of its capabilities.
On January 22, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine called on citizens to prepare a stock of long–term storage products, drinking and industrial water for three to five days, pack a suitcase of basic necessities with documents, a first-aid kit, warm clothes, heating equipment and cash, as well as check the technical condition of transport and take care of pets.
Stanislav Ignatiev, an energy expert at the Ukrainian Institute of the Future, said on January 26 that about 600,000 people had left Kiev, which was in a critical situation amid severe frosts and constant heat and electricity outages.
On January 27, it was reported that in Kiev, due to prolonged emergency power and heat outages, the temperature in the apartments of local residents does not rise above 13 degrees.
