The European Union (EU) is increasingly concerned about increasing dependence on American liquefied natural gas (LNG). This was announced on January 29 by European Commissioner for Energy Dan Jorgensen.

"I definitely hear this when I talk to energy ministers and heads of state from all over Europe — there is growing concern," he said, quoted by Bloomberg.

Jorgensen added that recent events have become a "wake-up call" for the EU, which now depends on the United States for more than half of its LNG supplies. Currently, the European Union is actively considering options for increasing gas supplies from Canada, Qatar and North African countries.
