The IKI RAS warned of an impending geomagnetic storm
The geomagnetic situation on Earth may worsen on January 28 due to the influence of the coronal hole on the Sun. This was reported on January 27 in the Telegram channel of the Laboratory of Solar Astronomy of the Institute of Space Research (IKI) of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
"A slight increase in geomagnetic indices is expected tomorrow due to the influence of the coronal hole. The speed and density of the solar wind are at average levels," the Telegram channel says.
The scientists added that no intense auroras have been recorded over the past 24 hours, and their appearance in the next 24 hours is unlikely.
The IKI RAS also noted that solar activity is at a moderate level and is likely to remain in this state.
On January 20, the laboratory of the IKI RAS reported the beginning of the second peak of the magnetic storm on Earth. Then it was clarified that geomagnetic indexes can be marked at a minimum of G4.
