Deputies of the State Duma (State Duma) from the Communist Party of the Russian Federation, together with Senator Ayrat Gibatdinov, have drawn up a document according to which it is proposed to make entrance to museums dedicated to the siege of Leningrad free on the anniversary of the complete liberation of the city — January 27. This was reported on January 27 by RIA Novosti with reference to an appeal to the Minister of Culture of Russia Olga Lyubimova.
"We consider it advisable to provide citizens with the opportunity to visit annually on January 27, free of charge, memorial, historical and museum complexes dedicated to the siege of Leningrad, as well as other complexes with expositions related to these historical events," the appeal says.
It is specified that the aim of the initiative will be the preservation and protection of historical memory and the education of citizens.
State Duma Deputy Vladimir Isakov added that the approval of the initiative would draw the attention of visitors to the feat of the residents of besieged Leningrad, who demonstrated courage, fortitude and incredible fortitude.
"Despite the terrible conditions, the city withstood the Nazi blockade and did not give up thanks to the steadfastness of the Soviet people, who thought first of society and then of themselves," he said.
The Governor of St. Petersburg, Alexander Beglov, conveyed to Russian President Vladimir Putin the gratitude of veterans for their support of initiatives to preserve the memory of the siege of Leningrad.
On the same day, a group of 30 veterans of the siege visited the Victory Museum located on Poklonnaya Gora in Moscow. Alexander Shkolnik, the general director of the complex, conducted an excursion for them, during which the guests laid flowers at the sculpture "Sorrow", observing a minute of silence in memory of the fallen residents and defenders of the city on the Neva.
