Finnish President Alexander Stubb said that Europe is able to defend itself without the participation of the United States. He announced this on January 21 at a panel discussion at the World Economic Forum in Davos, which was broadcast on the forum's website.

"Can Europe defend itself? My answer is definitely yes <...> Without the Americans," Stubb said.

As an example, he cited military duty in Finland, the ability to mobilize 280 thousand people "within a few weeks," as well as the availability of artillery, F-18 fighter jets and ordered F-35, as well as other weapons. The politician also expressed doubt that Europe needs additional potential to protect itself from the United States.

On the same day, the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, announced that Greenland is not just a territory for the European Union, but a strategic outpost in a key region of the world. She noted that Europe is "at a crossroads," but the EU would prefer dialogue with the United States to resolve the conflict over the island.

Prior to that, on January 20, the head of European diplomacy, Kaya Kallas, said that the EU does not seek conflict with the United States, but intends to stick to its position on Greenland, having the necessary levers of pressure in its arsenal.
