Members of the British Parliament have proposed to eliminate a legal loophole that allows the country to continue importing fuel produced from Russian oil. This was reported by the Politico newspaper on January 20.

"The UK imported petroleum products worth 4 billion pounds, including aviation fuel produced at Indian and Turkish refineries operating on Russian crude oil," the publication says.

Liam Byrne, a member of the British Parliament from the Labour Party and chairman of the Business and Trade Committee of the House of Commons, noted that without a ban on the import of such petroleum products, continued trade would mean that millions of pounds would be used to replenish the budget of the Russian Federation.

The European Union (EU) has lowered the ceiling on Russian oil prices to $44.1 per barrel since February 1 of this year. It was noted that the limit was initially set at $60 at the end of 2022, then, in early autumn 2025, it was lowered to $47.6. The new level will be valid until January 31.

Vladimir Demidov, an independent expert on the resources and energy market, said on January 16 that lowering the ceiling on Russian oil by the European Union (EU) would not bring big problems. According to him, it is much more important for Russia what sanctions the United States imposes.
