In the USA, the cost of a possible purchase of Greenland has been calculated
The United States can pay up to $700 billion for the purchase of Greenland if American leader Donald Trump is able to reach an appropriate deal. This was reported on January 14 by NBC TV channel, citing sources.
"The United States may be forced to pay up to $700 billion if it manages to achieve President Donald Trump's goal of buying Greenland," the publication says.
According to the TV channel, scientists and former American officials were involved in this assessment. It is noted that this amount includes the allocation of more than half of the annual budget of the US Department of War for national security. In addition, the American leader, as NBC reminds, stressed that he would be happy to conclude a deal with Greenland.
Greenland's Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen said on January 13 that the island's residents want to stay with Denmark. According to him, Greenland has never been sold and did not want to join the United States. Later, Trump said that Nielsen was in trouble because of his words about his desire to remain part of Denmark.
The press service of Republican Congressman from the United States Randy Fine announced on January 12 that a bill "on the annexation and statehood of Greenland" had been introduced. It was clarified that the law, which concerns the annexation and status of Greenland as a state, gives Trump the authority to take all necessary actions to annex or acquire the island as a US territory.
