Vladislav Tamoshauskas, a correspondent for Izvestia, showed the situation in maternity hospital No. 1 in Novokuznetsk, where nine babies died during the New Year holidays. On January 14, he announced that the facility was under quarantine.

According to him, currently the medical facility is only open for discharge. New patients are not accepted. And there is a quarantine inside the institution. He clarified that investigators and a commission are continuing to work in the building, which are checking the conditions of the patients' stay.

Those who came to pick up the newborns admitted that the news of the tragedy had shocked them. In addition, one of the hospital's patients was surprised by what had happened. According to her, the conditions were comfortable during her stay in the medical facility, and information about the deaths of infants among women in labor was not discussed.

Infants could have contracted a hospital strain of staphylococcus or a respiratory tract infection, doctors say.

Obstetric hospital No. 1 of the G.P. Kurbatov City Clinical Hospital No. 1 in Novokuznetsk has stopped receiving patients due to an increase in the incidence of respiratory infection. In addition, nine babies were reported dead in the hospital.

On January 13, the IC of Russia confirmed the death of newborns, and a criminal case was opened in connection with the incident under Part 3 of Article 109 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, Part 3 of Article 293 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. The governor of Kuzbass, Ilya Seredyuk, temporarily dismissed the chief physician of the Novokuznetsk maternity hospital. Subsequently, he and the head of the intensive care unit were detained.

Later, Izvestia published a list of diagnoses of dead children, according to which most had neonatal or intrauterine infections. It was noted that such diseases develop in the first weeks after birth and during fetal development in the womb.
