Gutsan announced plans to improve the fight against corruption
The Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation plans to improve its anti-corruption work so that high-ranking officials do not consider themselves inaccessible to justice. This was announced on January 12 by Prosecutor General Alexander Gutsan at a solemn event dedicated to the 304th anniversary of the Prosecutor's Office in Russia.
"We will improve our anti—corruption work so that none of the high-ranking officials harbors illusions about their inaccessibility from justice," Gutan stressed.
According to him, a significant amount of work remains to be done in the area of confiscation of money and property obtained by officials through criminal means, as well as in the issue of compensation for damage caused.
Gutsan also noted that the role of the prosecutor's office has increased significantly in the context of global changes in the world order, unprecedented challenges and the complication of public relations.
Earlier, on December 9, 2025, the head of the Investigative Committee (IC) of the Russian Federation, Alexander Bastrykin, said that Russia could begin seizing the property of persons involved in corruption, as well as expand the use of confiscations, the relevant bill has already been sent to the government for consideration. Bastrykin said that illegally obtained assets are often transferred abroad, which makes it difficult to find and return them due to insufficient regulation by the law.
