- The centenary was celebrated by the ex-editor of Channel Five, who survived the blockade
Marianna Kurilovich, the former chief music editor of Channel Five, who survived the siege of Leningrad, celebrated her centenary. She told about it on January 11 in an interview with Izvestia.
During the Great Patriotic War, Kurilovich worked as a nurse with her medical parents and survived the hardest months of the blockade.
"The blockade started very quickly," she recalls.
Kurilovich noted that nine members of her family died of starvation. According to her, one day she miraculously survived the shelling.
"We were closer, but she died, and I stayed alive," the veteran said, recalling the death of the postman from a shell fragment.
Marianna Kurilovich ended the war with 26 medals and the Order of the Patriotic War II degree. After the war, she devoted 40 years to working on Leningrad television and made a significant contribution to the development of Russian television, including as music editor of Channel Five.
Earlier, on June 27, 2025, it was reported that Vladimir Yangorev, a centenarian veteran of the Great Patriotic War, was awarded the Order of Alexander Nevsky on his birthday. He went to the front at the age of 17 and devoted almost 44 years to service in the Armed Forces, ending his career with the rank of colonel. The veteran raised several generations of cadets and still maintains contact with the Moscow Higher Combined Arms Command School.
