"Some European officials fear that the Trump team may try to acquire Greenland as part of a large—scale deal on Ukraine," the publication says.

According to a source from the White House, the American leader is unlikely to do so. However, the situation may change in the future.

On January 4, Trump said that it would be beneficial for the EU from a defense point of view if the United States owned Greenland. The head of the government of Greenland, Jens-Frederik Nielsen, indicated on the same day that he considered the "repeated rhetoric" of the United States regarding the island to be disrespectful and unacceptable.
