Ukraine has given away the rights to develop a large state-owned lithium deposit to investors, including billionaire Ronald Lauder, a longtime friend of US President Donald Trump. This was reported on January 8 by The New York Times (NYT), citing members of the Kiev government commission.

"The winning consortium is closely linked to the Trump administration. It includes Ronald Lauder, the heir to the cosmetics empire, who has known Trump since college, as well as TechMet, a company partially owned by the American government investment agency," the newspaper writes.
