On January 9, Iran's state television called the participants of large-scale rallies across the country terrorists.

"On Thursday, armed terrorist cells intensified with the aim of provocation and whipping up public fear," the IRIB TV channel said.

Footage from social networks shows burning cars, crowds of people chanting: "Pahlavi will return!" (we are talking about the heir to the last Shahanshah of Iran, Reza Pahlavi). As well as clashes between demonstrators and security forces and even beating a man in a military uniform.

It is reported that the security forces called on citizens to "report armed individuals to law enforcement agencies."

On the same day, US President Donald Trump did not rule out a possible collapse in Iran due to the protests. According to him, the United States can deal a severe blow to the country in the event of the death of protesters. US Vice President Jay Dee Vance said yesterday that Washington stands in solidarity with those who express their position in a nonviolent way.

On January 1, the Fars news agency reported riots that escalated into clashes with the police in Iran. Then it became known about the three dead. On the same day, Tasnim news agency reported that the protesters burned the Koran among a number of religious books, and also prevented those wishing to visit the mosque. US President Donald Trump later said that Washington was ready to help the demonstrators if Iran killed peaceful protesters.

On January 6, it was reported that Iranian protesters had effectively taken control of the cities of Abdanan and Malekshahi in Ilam province amid ongoing economic and political protests. It is specified that the demonstrations were accompanied by increased security measures. In particular, the security forces used tear gas and pneumatic weapons, and also interfered with the work of hospitals.
