- The Ministry of Internal Affairs warned about a new fraud scheme with the sending of viruses
In Russia, fraudsters began sending out viruses allegedly from cellular companies under the pretext of prolonging the contract. This was reported on January 4 in the press center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation.
According to the agency, cited by TASS, it is reported that the attackers pose as employees of communications companies and, under the pretext of extending the contract, offer to download files with names like "Contract.apk". During the conversation, they also convince the victim to make changes to the banking application, referring to the phone number change.
They also added that malicious software allows fraudsters to remotely collect information from a device: phone model, operating system version, SMS messages, and the like.
Earlier that day, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation reported that fraudsters posing as mobile operators most often use messages about the allegedly expiring validity period of the number, the extension of the contract and the imminent blocking of the phone to obtain an authorization code on the Gosuslugi portal.
