- In Romania, 11 thousand people were left without clean water due to pollution of the source.
In four settlements of the Romanian county of Brasov, where 11 thousand people live, the supply of drinking water was stopped after the source was contaminated with diesel fuel. This was announced on January 2 by the press service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the country.
"This crisis arose as a result of a traffic accident on December 30 (in the area of Arpashul Mare peak), where a diesel fuel spill from a truck tank polluted a source supplying water to four settlements. Since the water supply was stopped, local authorities have taken measures to provide drinking water to the affected population," says a Facebook post (owned by Meta, a company whose activities are recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation).
According to the ministry, the city of Victoria and the settlements of Ucha, Vishtya and Dragush were affected.
The department clarified that the reserve resources of the county water supply company are used to provide residents with drinking water. To date, about 4 thousand liters of water have been delivered to the affected settlements.
The Guardian newspaper reported on January 15, 2025, that the British Air Force (RAF) bases had become a source of serious groundwater contamination with non-degradable chemicals. It was noted that concentrations of a group of dangerous substances in the groundwater area near the bases of the Royal Air Force are extremely alarming and are ten times higher than the permissible norm.
