The State Duma deputy called the ban on alcohol sales on holidays correct.
The introduction of restrictions on the sale of alcohol during the New Year holidays is the right decision. This was announced on January 2 by Dmitry Gusev, First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Control.
"Many of our regions adopt their own regional restrictions on the sale of alcohol. <...> That's right," he said in an interview with TASS.
The parliamentarian noted that the subjects of the Russian Federation have the right to independently establish rules for alcohol trafficking based on the local situation. Gusev also supported the initiative of Russian regions when they are looking for their own mechanisms to minimize the negative effects of alcohol consumption and reduce the number of accidents.
Gusev recalled that strict measures are already in place in a number of territories. Thus, a complete ban on the sale of alcohol on public holidays has been introduced in the Republic of Tyva and certain districts of the Irkutsk region. Restrictions are also applied in the Kirov, Vologda regions and a number of other regions of the country.
According to the deputy, during the New Year holidays, the crime rate in Russia traditionally increases by about 2.5 times. He attributes this trend to long weekends and heavy alcohol consumption, stressing the need for preventive measures on the part of regional authorities.
Earlier that day, Natalia Glebova, a member of the Russian Bar Association, recalled that drinking alcoholic beverages in public places on public holidays could be fraught with a fine of up to 1.5 thousand rubles, and for minors this could result in registration.
