- The Interior Ministry told about the fraud scheme with the alleged return of tickets for a date
Scammers use fake links to extort money from their victims by promising to refund money for tickets to various dating events. This was reported on January 1 by TASS, citing materials from the Russian Interior Ministry.
It is indicated that scammers find potential victims on dating sites and, posing as girls, offer to continue communicating in the messenger. During the correspondence, they offer to go to the event by sending a link to purchase tickets. The victim pays for the tickets, but soon he is informed that the girl will not be able to come, and they offer to refund the money through the same link.
The technical support of the website indicated in the link explains to the victim that in order to make a refund, you need to transfer the equivalent amount to the specified banking details, after which the money will allegedly be returned. However, after the transfer of funds, messages about unsuccessful transactions appear, and the victim is asked to repeat the transaction. Such attempts continue several times until the victim realizes that he has been communicating with scammers.
The day before, Liana Kamalieva, a member of the Union of Blogging Lawyers at the Kutafin Moscow Law Law Institute at the Russian Bar Association, reported that fraudsters use the dulled vigilance of citizens during the New Year holidays. It was clarified that schemes involving the purchase of gifts, non-existent sweepstakes and the delivery of non-existent apartments are now the most popular. Also, fake websites, the design of which imitates popular marketplaces, are most relevant in a fraudulent environment.
