A man was sentenced to 27 years for attempting to blow up an official in the Zaporizhia region.

The Southern District Military Court announced the verdict in the criminal case against Artyom Malyshev, who was found guilty of preparing and attempting to commit a terrorist act on the territory of the Zaporizhia region. This was reported on December 29 in the Telegram channel of the court.

"During the period from August to November 2022, while in the Zaporozhye region, the defendant agreed to an offer from an employee of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine to join and participate in the created terrorist community," the statement said.

The investigation and the court established that he was engaged in monitoring the objects of criminal encroachments, transporting and storing explosive devices, as well as preparing an improvised explosive device (IED) for use. The organizers of the community planned to commit a terrorist act by blowing up the car of the head of the road maintenance department of the State Unitary Enterprise "Highway Administration of the Zaporizhia region."

In late October and early November 2022, Malyshev received explosive devices in Melitopol and stored them in an outbuilding. In April 2023, he received a video instruction on how to bring the IED into working order via his mobile phone, after which he monitored the alleged victim's car from May to June.

Then, on June 13, 2023, the defendant illegally transported an explosive device and secured it under the bottom of the car on the driver's side. However, the victim discovered the IED and informed the law enforcement authorities, who defused and seized the device. A few weeks later, on July 5, 2023, Malyshev was detained.

"The defendant was found guilty and sentenced to imprisonment for a term of 27 years in a high—security penal colony with serving the first five years in prison with a fine of 700 thousand rubles," the statement said.

On December 26, the FSB press service informed Izvestia that an attempt to plant an explosive device on a serviceman's car had been prevented in Stavropol. A 16-year-old girl received an improvised explosive device with a capacity of 400 grams of TNT from the Ukrainian security forces and intended to attach it to a car parked near a military unit. It is specified that she was detained while trying to carry out a criminal plan.
