From January 1, 2026, an updated GOST will come into effect in Russia, regulating the use of road signs, markings and traffic lights. The relevant document is posted on the official website of Rosstandart.

The ministry explained that the changes are aimed at improving road safety, as well as simplifying the perception of information by drivers and pedestrians.

Among the innovations is the appearance of the sign "Recommended speed when passing an artificial bump." It will indicate the optimal speed limit for safely overcoming such sections. Rosstandart noted that the introduction of this sign will reduce the number of speed bumps in the places where they are installed by about half.

In addition, the updated standard allows for the placement of stop lines not only horizontally, but also vertically. The "Time of action" signs will now be able to indicate specific months, for example, the period from September to April. A new "Deaf" sign is also being introduced, which is planned to be installed in front of pedestrian crossings near facilities frequented by deaf and hard of hearing people.

Earlier, on December 15, the Ministry of Transport, Rosavtodor and the Ministry of Internal Affairs prepared a package of amendments to the rules of the road, including the priority of electronic signs, mandatory distance for trucks and new accident accounting methods. These measures will allow for a more accurate analysis of accident situations by region and specific routes, as well as improve traffic management and highway safety.

All important news is on the Izvestia channel in the MAX messenger.
