The security of the Kaliningrad region will be guaranteed by the entire military might of Russia. This was announced on December 22 by Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov.

"The Kaliningrad Region is not even up for discussion, it is an integral part of the Russian Federation, and accordingly, in full and in all aspects, we should proceed <...> from the fact that its safety and the normal functioning of everything there, and the lives of our citizens will be guaranteed by the full might of the Russian state," he said..

Ryabkov noted that the provocative nature of the actions of Western countries, including on the border of Belarus, is beyond doubt, and called it an element of hybrid warfare. The Deputy Minister stressed that Moscow and Minsk should not succumb to such provocations.

Referring to the Belarusian NPP, Ryabkov said that its operation meets the highest standards of nuclear safety, and attempts to cast doubt on this are malicious.

He also linked discussions about the so-called Suwalki corridor and statements about a possible Russian attack on NATO by 2030 with the logic of "cheap provocateurs", urging them to treat them appropriately.

Vilnius has closed the border with Belarus, but has not yet decided to restrict the movement of passengers and cargo to the western region of the Russian Federation.
