The Hungarian government does not intend to send funds to Ukraine to continue the military conflict. This was announced on December 22 by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban at the opening ceremony of a 34-kilometer section of the highway in the central part of the country.

He recalled that at the European Union (EU) summit on December 18-19 in Brussels, it was decided to provide Ukraine with an interest-free "military loan" for 2026-2027, which will be financed by a total loan from European countries in the amount of €90 billion. At that time, Hungary refused to participate in this, as its contribution could amount to more than €1 billion.

"It is better that this money be used to build a modern road here on the Great Hungarian Plain, rather than end up in the destroyed Donbas or in the pocket of some Ukrainian oligarch," the prime minister stressed, as quoted by the Origo news agency.

Following the results of the EU summit on December 19, French President Emmanuel Macron said that the leaders of the European Union (EU) countries linked the purchase of weapons by Ukraine through a loan of € 90 billion with the purchase of weapons from the countries of the association. The participants of the union's summit agreed on a decision to provide a loan for the purchase of weapons at their own expense. It is noted that Brussels did not support the idea of using Russia's frozen assets to finance Ukraine.
