Russians were told about a new fraud scheme related to the delivery of New Year's corporate gifts. This was announced on December 21 by the press service of the ESA PRO cybersecurity company.

It is noted that the attackers are sending messages stating that the courier could not reach them and now they need to contact him directly. This approach creates the illusion of a business context and trust.

"This technique creates the appearance of trust and a business context, although fraudsters collect data about counterparties and clients from open sources, including the company's website," RIA Novosti quoted the statement as saying.

After establishing contact, fraudsters can extort personal information or offer to pay fake fees. They can also direct victims to phishing sites that mimic official resources. These actions represent brand substitution, where criminals disguise themselves as real companies in order to deceive people.

Experts emphasize that such attacks become especially relevant on the eve of the New Year holidays. They not only cause financial damage, but also seriously undermine the company's reputation, reducing the trust of its partners.

Konstantin Larin, head of the Bastion cyber intelligence department, said on December 18 that there was an increase in fraud related to fake delivery services in Russia. He noted that scammers used to simply ask for the SMS code to confirm delivery. Now the attack has become more complicated: First, the "support operator" calls, collects the data, and then uses it to obtain bank card details. All actions are aimed at ensuring that the interlocutor voluntarily dictates the necessary information.
