Snow fell in the deserts of Saudi Arabia for the first time in 30 years
Saudi Arabia saw the first snowfall in the last three decades, which covered several areas of the country, the Anadolu agency reported.
"Snow fell in several areas of Saudi Arabia on Thursday. <...> This is happening for the first time in three decades," the publication says.
The snow cover covered the dunes in territories stretching over several thousand square kilometers — from the Troena Mountain Reserve in the west to the capital Riyadh in the center of the country. Local roads were covered with ice, which created a danger to movement.
On December 2, NBC News reported on a powerful winter storm in the eastern United States, which created serious consequences for transportation and caused the threat of prolonged disruptions on roads and at airports. According to the US National Weather Service, the cyclone brought heavy snow, freezing rain and heavy precipitation.
