- The Russian Foreign Ministry announced the US response to Russia's position on pragmatic dialogue.
The process of normalization of relations between Russia and the United States, despite the difficulties, continues, while Moscow's pragmatic position resonates with the current American administration. This was stated on December 18 by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, during a briefing.
"The process of normalizing relations between Russia and the United States of America is, of course, not easy. <...> Our firm position, which is based on the protection of national interests, respect for traditions and readiness for a pragmatic dialogue, is the only correct approach, and this approach, as we see, resonates with the current American administration," — She said.
Zakharova noted that the ideological split within the United States, caused by the departure of elites from traditional foundations, has long complicated the dialogue. At the same time, she said, the desire of many Americans to restore their fundamental values creates the basis for a better understanding.
On the same day, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Russia was preparing certain contacts with the United States to learn more about the proposals made by the European Union (EU) and Ukraine in the peace plan.
The day before, Russian President Vladimir Putin welcomed the progress that has emerged in the dialogue with the new US administration. Speaking at an expanded meeting of the board of the Russian Defense Ministry, he stressed that Moscow stands for building mutually beneficial and equal cooperation with Washington.
