Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on December 18 that he was struck by the "directness" of the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, who called on the United States not to interfere in "European democracy."

"Then she (Ursula von der Leyen. She also added: "It is the voters who decide who is the leader, and no one else should interfere." Romania and Moldova are well-known. Without a doubt, these people give out such "maxims," he is quoted as saying in a statement posted on the agency's website.

Lavrov also stressed that the position of the United States, which, according to him, no longer wants democracy "as it is understood in Europe," is a serious indicator. In confirmation, he cited a recent statement by American leader Donald Trump, who advised Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky to hold elections in the country.

The Russian Foreign Minister accused the West of a systemic practice of "electoral neocolonialism" — interference in the internal affairs of sovereign states using a wide range of technologies, from supporting pro-Western media to manipulating observation missions.

The day before, von der Leyen said that Russia allegedly poses a direct threat to the security of European states. According to her, the indefinite freezing of Russian assets in the EU allegedly "could significantly change the situation for both Ukraine and Europe."

Earlier, on December 15, Sergey Lavrov said that the actions of the EU countries are the main threat in the world at the moment. According to the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry, it has happened more than once in history that Europe has become a source of large-scale crises.

Prior to that, on November 30, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said that EU leaders were influenced by their own militaristic propaganda, which could jeopardize the security of the entire continent.

Russian President Vladimir Putin, in turn, announced on December 2 that Russia was not going to go to war with Europe. According to him, Russia is currently operating in Ukraine "surgically," but in the event of an attack by European countries on Russia, everything will be different.
