- Power outages due to bad weather affected over 61 thousand residents of the Penza region
More than 61,000 residents of the Penza region were affected by power outages due to strong squally winds and sleet that damaged power lines. This was announced on December 13 by the governor of the region Oleg Melnichenko.
"In 11 municipalities of the region, more than 23 thousand houses remained without electricity supply. The shutdown affected 61,000 people," he wrote on his Telegram channel.
Penza's residential districts, Zarya, Arbekovo, Ternovka and Okruzhnaya, were left without electricity. About 40 emergency crews are working throughout the region, which will have to restore electricity to 20 thousand homes where 24 thousand people live, the governor wrote. Assistance in eliminating accidents will be provided to the Bessonovsky and Mokshansky districts.
Melnichenko added that more than 300 snowplows are involved on federal and regional highways. 110 pieces of equipment and 130 people work in Penza.
"I instructed officials of the regional government and heads of municipalities to be at their workplaces. We are switching to the mode of constant reports," Melnichenko concluded.
On the same day, Melnichenko introduced a high-alert regime in the Penza region due to a sharp deterioration in weather conditions and a decrease in air temperature. The governor also urged residents to take care of themselves and their loved ones and take safety measures in difficult weather conditions.
