The Congress of Honduras refused to recognize the results of the presidential election. This was stated on December 11 in a statement by the legislature, published on the social network X (ex. Twitter).

The Congress explained that the electoral process, in their opinion, was held under pressure from criminal groups associated with the drug business.

In addition, the deputies criticized the alleged US interference in the election process, describing such actions as a "threat to the people of Honduras."

On December 2, President of the United States Donald Trump threatened Honduras with a "hellish reckoning" due to the situation related to the completion of the counting of votes in the elections. According to him, on November 30, the majority of Hondurans voted in the presidential election, but the National Election Commission suddenly stopped processing them when 47% of the votes were counted. The American leader stressed that it was "very important" to complete the vote count, and democracy "must prevail."
