Sophie Kinsella, author of the popular novel series Shopaholic, has died at the age of 55. This was announced on December 10 by her family in a statement posted on the writer's Instagram page (owned by Meta, a company whose activities are recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation).

"We are heartbroken to announce the passing of our beloved Sophie this morning. She died peacefully, and her last days were filled with her true favorite things: family, music, warmth, Christmas, and joy.

According to Sky News, in 2022, Kinsella, whose real name is Madeleine Sophie Wickham, was diagnosed with an aggressive form of brain cancer. According to her family, she endured the illness with "unimaginable courage." The writer considered herself "truly blessed" for her successful career and the support of her loved ones.

According to the publication, Sophie Kinsella's novels have sold more than 45 million copies in more than 60 countries and have been translated into 40 languages. The first two books in the Shopaholic series were adapted into the movie Confessions of a Shopaholic (2009) starring Isla Fisher.

The writer left behind five children and her husband Henry Wickham. Her latest novel is "What is this Feeling?" it was released in October 2024.
