The Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations has delivered more than 34 tons of humanitarian aid to Sri Lanka. This was announced on December 10 by the press service of the department.
"The Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations has delivered humanitarian aid to the Sri Lankan population affected by the effects of Cyclone Ditva," the statement said.
It is noted that the humanitarian cargo was sent by IL-76 aircraft. Mobile power plants, pumping equipment, tents and food supplies have been transferred to the flood-affected region.
On December 1, Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed his condolences to Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake in connection with the numerous victims of the floods. The Russian leader asked on his behalf to convey words of sympathy and support to the families and friends of the victims, and also wished a speedy recovery to the victims of the disaster.
On December 3, the Russian Foreign Ministry announced that the Russian Federation was working on the issue of providing humanitarian assistance to Sri Lanka. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, 410 people died and 336 are missing as a result of floods and landslides. There were no Russian citizens among them.
