- Harvard has suggested a connection between 3I/ATLAS and an alien civilization
Interstellar objects such as Comet 3I/ATLAS can be sent by alien civilizations to "sow" life on Earth. At the same time, it is almost impossible that for the entire time of Earth's existence the Earth has not been exposed to potentially more advanced civilizations because of something or someone from other planets. This was announced on December 5 by Ani Loeb, an astrophysicist from Harvard University.
"The residents of the previous stars had many opportunities to visit us. It all depends on their plans. But if there is an interstellar gardener, then obviously he could have intervened... he could have deliberately sowed various forms of life on Earth," he said in an interview with The New York Post (NYP) newspaper.
In his blog, Loeb wrote that it is extremely unlikely that in the 4.6 billion years of Earth's existence, humanity has not encountered at least one alien space creature. According to him, he explained that meter-sized rocks from interstellar space can hit the Earth about once every 10 years — this gives half a billion such collisions in the history of the planet.
"If any of these debris carried stable life forms that survived interstellar travel, the Earth could have been exposed to extraterrestrial life forms," he added.
Since most stars formed a billion years earlier than the Sun, the "ambitious gardener from an older star" had enough time to influence the development of life on our planet, the scientist claims. Loeb also stressed that experts often consider the history of the Earth as isolated from the galactic environment. However, he noted that this may not be true.
Despite the position of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), which considers 3I/ATLAS to be a comet, Loeb has suggested several times that it may be an object of artificial origin due to a number of characteristics unlike a comet.
Loeb recently stated that this space object has a "pulse" similar to a "heartbeat." As specified, this may indicate its artificial origin — perhaps even the internal structure of the spacecraft.
Loeb also called 3I/ATLAS the "big brother" of other interstellar objects, possibly with "larger and more technologically advanced civilizations" that have been observing the solar system for a long time.
"We may have a whole family of technological civilizations like ours, or intelligent civilizations that we don't know about. These are our brothers and sisters, and the most successful of them are those who managed to leave their native planet, sheltering it at an early age, and spread it," the astrophysicist added.
Loeb also stressed that it is extremely important for humanity to move towards interplanetary exploration. He warned that with inaction, humanity could face self-destruction, just like other celestial civilizations.
In addition, the astrophysicist cited the phrase of the artist Salvador Dali that intelligence without ambition is a bird without wings, emphasizing that it is applicable to intelligent civilizations in our galaxy. According to him, many of them may have been involved in geopolitical conflicts on their "stone planets" and may have already disappeared. Therefore, according to the scientist, humanity should redistribute part of military expenses for space expeditions.
Astronomer, popularizer of astronomy and cosmonautics Alexander Kiselyov explained the "heartbeat" of 3I/ATLAS on December 5. According to him, this behavior of the comet is related to its rotation and periodic loss of mass through multiple jets of gas recorded in recent NASA images.
