The availability of in vitro fertilization (IVF) in Russia has increased significantly, and it is currently possible to practically eliminate the wait for this procedure. This was announced on December 8 by the Minister of Health of the Russian Federation Mikhail Murashko.

"Today, assisted reproductive technologies have become as accessible as possible for people. In five years, the number of IVF cycles performed has increased by 27%, and in 2024, more than 32 thousand children were born as a result of IVF," he said in an interview with TASS.

Murashko added that due to the annual increase in funding under the state guarantee program, more than 100,000 IVF cycles are planned to be completed this year at the expense of compulsory medical insurance funds.

The minister also stressed that with the increasing availability of the procedure, the effectiveness of their implementation in each specific clinic is also increasing. The draft state guarantee program for 2026 provides for a 15% increase in IVF care, as well as an 8% increase in financial costs. Additionally, the possibilities of using assisted reproductive technologies for couples at risk of hereditary diseases have been expanded, which will help parents have healthy children.

Earlier in the day, Murashko reported that the incidence of infertility in Russia has decreased over the past six years. Currently, this figure in the territory of the state reaches about 7-8%.
