Murders of parents by children in Japan caused a public outcry
In Japan, two cases have been recorded in which children over the age of 70 killed their parents at the ages of 100 and 102. These incidents highlighted the challenges faced by local residents caring for the elderly. This was reported on December 3 by the South China Morning Post (SCMP) newspaper.
One of the attackers, 79-year-old Masato Watabe, did not try to hide the murder of his 100-year-old mother Masako. He called the emergency service an hour after the incident. The Japanese man also confessed to the police that he was the one who committed the murder.
However, instead of subjecting him to comprehensive condemnation, the people of Japan feel sympathy for the man. Allegedly, the country is currently facing problems related to a rapidly aging population and increasing pressure on families who are forced to take care of the elderly and infirm.
"I'm so tired of taking care of her. I don't feel well myself and I'm worried about what will happen to my mother if I can't take care of her anymore," Watabe confessed.
According to the publication, the man had been living with his mother in the Tokyo suburb of Machida for several years. The woman was found in a medical bed on November 25. The public reacted with understanding, and social media users openly expressed the hope that they would never find themselves in a similar situation.
On August 29, The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) published a case in which the chat bot ChatGPT encouraged a former Yahoo employee, Stein-Eric Solberg, to kill his own mother and commit suicide. It was noted that he suffered from paranoid thoughts. According to the publication, this is the first time that a mentally unstable person has committed a murder under the influence of artificial intelligence (AI).
