- The most widely read article on the English Wikipedia in 2025 was the material about Kirk
The most widely read article in the English version of the online encyclopedia Wikipedia in 2025 was the article dedicated to the murdered American conservative activist Charlie Kirk. The relevant information was published on the Wikimedia Foundation portal on December 2.
"The most widely read article in the English Wikipedia this year was dedicated to Charlie Kirk," the foundation's publication says.
The second place was taken by an article dedicated to people who died in 2025. In third place was the material about the American serial killer Ed Ginn. The top 5 also includes articles about US President Donald Trump and Pope Leo XIV.
The top twenty most-read articles of the year included American entrepreneur Elon Musk, future mayor of New York Zohran Mamdani, British rock musician Ozzy Osbourne, former Pope Francis, American blogger MrBeast and US Vice President Jay Dee Vance.
The day before, the Oxford English Dictionary named the noun "rage bait" as the word of 2025. The word "ragebate" refers to online content specifically created to provoke anger or outrage by using provocative or offensive elements.
Kirk died on September 10 after an assassination attempt during a speech at the University of Utah. He played a key role in the victory of US President Donald Trump in the 2024 elections. The suspect, Tyler Robinson, was charged with murder and appeared in court for the first time via video link on September 17. The farewell ceremony for the politician took place on September 21 at the State Farm in Arizona.
On October 15, US President Donald Trump posthumously awarded Kirk the Presidential Medal. The widow of activist Erica Kirk received it from the hands of the American leader.
