Choosing a pet that does not require daily long walks, complicated care and large expenses is especially important for busy citizens today: people are looking for a companion who fits into the schedule and does not turn the apartment into a circus. At the same time, even the most "lazy" animals need basic attention, proper housing preparation and responsible attitude, otherwise they quickly begin to get sick and suffer. A selection of the most unpretentious pets can be found in the Izvestia article.

Aquarium fish

Aquarium fish are considered one of the easiest options for those who want to "watch, not rush around." With the right volume of the aquarium, filtration and stable lighting, daily care is reduced to feeding and a short inspection of the inhabitants.

Once a week, it is enough for the owner to change some of the water and clean the filter, and when installing an automatic feeder and a light timer, the fish can safely be left alone for several days.

The main advantages of this option are:

  • absence of wool and odor in the apartment;

  • minimal risk of allergies;

  • the opportunity to leave quietly for the weekend.

The snails

Large snails and small species for aquariums have long become a symbol of the "pet for the busiest". They need a terrarium or aquarium with soil, stable temperature and humidity, and feeding is limited to vegetables, fruits and special mixtures.

Such animals do not make noise, practically do not smell and easily tolerate the absence of their owners for a couple of days, provided that the right microclimate is maintained inside.

Key features of snail keeping:

  • cleaning of the soil and walls every few days;

  • Humidity control (spraying, sometimes humidifier);

  • access to calcium for the sink.

Turtles

Land and water turtles are included in the ratings of unpretentious pets if the owner is ready to properly organize the terrarium once. It is important to provide animals with a comfortable temperature, ultraviolet light and a suitable diet, after which daily care becomes quite routine.

Turtles do not require walks, they do not need constant human company, and with a competent water filtration system and nutrition control, cleaning is carried out on a schedule, not "on alert."

When choosing a turtle, it is important to consider:

  • life expectancy in decades;

  • the need to consult with a veterinarian on appearance, diet and vitamins;

  • the risk of making a mistake with the size of a future adult animal.

Leopard gecko and other simple lizards

The leopard gecko is considered one of the most "domestic" and easy-to-keep reptiles. He needs a terrarium with heating, shelters, a thermometer and lamps, and feeding with live insects usually takes place several times a week.

With stable temperature and humidity, terrarium care is limited to periodic cleaning and monitoring of equipment, and the animal itself makes little noise and almost no smell.

For minimal stress, it is important for a gecko:

  • do not skimp on terrarium equipment;

  • Provide regular, but not daily, contact if you need a pet.;

  • think in advance about where to buy food insects.

Hamsters

Hamsters are traditionally included in the list of the first pets "for children and busy parents" because of their compactness and simple basic care. They need a cage with a house, a drinking bowl, a bowl, a wheel and a filler, and cleaning is usually carried out once or twice a week.

Financial expenses for food and filler are relatively small, and daily care is limited to feeding and a short visual inspection if the owner does not plan active "manual" communication.

It is important to remember:

  • Hamsters are nocturnal animals and can make noise in the dark.;

  • It will still take time to tame a pet.;

  • Small children need to be taught the rules of handling to avoid bites.

Guinea pigs

Guinea pigs are slightly more demanding than hamsters, but they remain in the category of relatively simple pets. They need a spacious horizontal aviary, constant access to hay, granular feed, water and fresh vegetables.

Animals are usually calm, rarely bite and quickly get used to humans, so they are well suited for families with primary school children.

Features of guinea pig care:

  • regular cleaning of the cage to prevent odor;

  • control teeth and claws, as they grow all their lives;

  • mandatory hay and vitamin C in the diet for disease prevention.

Budgie and the canary

Budgies and canaries are considered to be among the most unpretentious indoor birds: they need a cage with perches, a feeder, a drinking bowl and a tray, as well as a daily portion of food and fresh water.

The cage is usually cleaned after one or two days, and a couple of times a month they carry out a "general cleaning", which is quite compatible with a busy work schedule.

When choosing a bird, it is worth considering:

  • Canaries are more "for contemplation and singing", budgies are for communication and learning words.;

  • birds need to fly around the room from time to time under supervision;

  • The volume of voices can be a problem for sensitive neighbors.

Cats

A domestic cat is one of the most convenient options for those who want a sociable but relatively "independent" pet. In the presence of a tray, a scratching post and a proper diet, daily care is reduced to feeding, cleaning the toilet and, if necessary, combing.

Many adult cats can easily endure a working day alone, and veterinary care and food are now available in almost any city.

In order for a cat to truly remain a "pet with minimal care," it is important:

  • choose calm, not too temperamentally active animals;

  • Budget in advance for regular vaccinations, parasite treatment, and sterilization.;

  • provide a place where the animal can retire and take a break from people.

Crustaceans

Aquarium shrimps, small crabs and other crustaceans are suitable for those who appreciate unusual pets and do not expect close contact. They live in aquariums or paludariums, and the main care is related to maintaining clean water, stable temperature and regular feeding.

With a properly running system, the aquarium requires only periodic water change and soil cleaning, while the animals themselves do not create noise and smell.

Advantages of crustaceans for busy people:

  • compactness and interesting behavior "for observation";

  • no wool and minimal risk of allergies;

  • the ability to combine with fish and snails in one aquarium (if the species are compatible).

Chinchillas

Chinchillas are exotic, long—lived rodents that are often chosen for their soft fur and "toy-like" appearance. Chinchillas are cautious and timid at the beginning, but with gentle, regular contact they become tame and can sit on their hands with pleasure.

These are twilight and nocturnal animals: the main activity, running and jumping occur in the evening and at night, so it is better not to put a cage next to the bed.

Conditions of detention

  • You need a large vertical cage of at least 80x 50 x 100 cm with shelves, ladders and shelter.

  • Wood or paper pellets, coconut substrate are used as a filler, and the litter needs to be changed about once every three to four days.

  • The main food is granulated mixtures for chinchillas plus hay and dried herbs; treats (apples, carrots, nuts) are given a little.

Advantages of chinchillas for busy people:

  • there are no daily walks and walks in any weather.;

  • The filler in the cage is changed about once every three to four days, rather than every day.;

  • there is no need to bathe in water, there is no wet hair and "dog" smell — sand baths are enough.;

  • This is not an "intrusive" pet: a chinchilla can be carefully taken out for communication, but it spends most of its time quietly in a cage.
